The 2018 Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Grand Marshal
Shari Feeney
The Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, celebrating their sixth successful year, has selected Ms. Shari Feeney to lead their parade for 2018. Shari is currently celebrating her fifth year as principal at the Deane- Porter Elementary School in Rumson.
She is most proud of her Irish heritage with Irish ancestors hailing from the rugged west coast of Ireland in Co. Galway. Shari has visited Ireland in search of her Irish ancestors and even took some time to kiss the Blarney Stone!
Shari moved to Rumson in 1977 and is a graduate from Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School where she enjoyed playing on the Field Hockey team and was Co-Captain her Senior Year.
Shari graduated from the University of Rhode Island, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She also obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching, from Monmouth University. She is highly qualified in Language Arts, holding an additional NJ Principal Certificate from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Shari was awarded the NJ Governor's Teacher Recognition Award and currently is involved with the NJDOE, Rutgers University, and the National Institute for Early Education Research in supporting high quality teaching practices.
Prior to becoming the Principal of the Deane-Porter School in 2013, Shari served as the Administrative Intern for the Rumson School District, working in both Deane-Porter and Forrestdale schools. She has worked as a teacher in the district for twenty years teaching ELA & Science.
Since becoming principal at Deane-Porter school, Shari was instrumental in launching the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) program, introducing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) this year. She participated in the NJKEA program and the Implementation Guidelines with the NJDOE, Rutgers, and NIEER. Shari’s recent endeavor is training a therapy Ausiedoodle puppy called Boomer for the district. She and another teacher picked up Boomer in Columbus, Ohio and drove him back to his new home in NJ. Boomer resides with Shari, attends puppy kindergarten class every day, and is a huge asset to the school.
Of Shari’s many accomplishments, her proudest is her daughter, Ashley Levy. Ashley is an interior designer in NYC. She is married and living on the upper East Side of Manhattan.
The Rumson Parade Committee is proud to have Ms. Shari Feeney lead the 6th Annual Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 11, 2018.
